GPX guide

Export a GPX from Apple Watch workouts

Apple Watch records outdoor workouts to Fitness / Health. Export a GPX through a sync app or Health export path, then animate the track into an MP4 with Vianim.

How it works

  1. 1

Record an outdoor workout with GPS

Use an Outdoor Run, Outdoor Cycle, Hiking, or similar GPS workout on Apple Watch so the route includes location samples.

  2. 2

Export a GPX of that workout

Apple does not ship a one-tap “Export GPX” button in the Fitness app. Common paths: sync the workout to Strava or another service that offers Export GPX, or use a Health / workout export tool that writes .gpx from the recorded route.

  3. 3

    Upload to Vianim

Drop the .gpx into the studio, preview the 3D flyover, and export 16:9 or 9:16 MP4 for your edit or social post.

Why Apple Watch needs an export hop

Watch workouts live in Apple’s Fitness and Health ecosystem. Unlike Garmin Connect’s direct GPX export, getting a portable track usually means syncing to a service that speaks GPX or using an exporter that reads the workout route.

Once you have a standard GPX file, Vianim treats it like any other outdoor track: client-side parse, 3D terrain preview, cloud MP4 render. The brand of the watch stops mattering at the file boundary.

Practical paths creators use

Many creators already mirror Watch workouts to Strava. If you do, follow our Strava GPX guide — export from strava.com, then import here. Others use niche Health exporters; any valid GPX LineString track works.

Avoid inventing coordinates. If the workout was Indoor or GPS-denied, there may be no meaningful route to animate — re-record outdoors or use a route you planned and exported elsewhere.

FAQ

Can the Fitness app export GPX directly?
Apple Fitness does not provide a prominent built-in GPX download for every workout. Most people sync to Strava (or similar) and export GPX from there, or use a Health-compatible exporter.
Will indoor workouts animate on a map?
Indoor workouts typically lack a GPS track. You need an outdoor workout (or another GPX source) for a route video.
What should the file look like?
A standard .gpx with a track (trk/trkpt). Upload that file in Vianim — the studio parses it in the browser before you preview or export.
